Three quick wins for a Texas energy bill
1. Shop your plan every year
Fixed-rate plans end, and many roll onto a pricier month-to-month rate. A calendar reminder 45 days before your term ends is worth real money.
2. Attack cooling first
Air conditioning is the biggest summer load. A smart thermostat, sealed ducts and attic insulation usually beat any gadget.
3. Plan for outages before they happen
Know your essentials in watts, pick the right backup tier and keep a carbon monoxide alarm working before the next storm.
How YEnergy works
We research Texas energy topics, explain them in plain language and, where it helps you, link to trusted comparison tools and retailers. When you buy or sign up through some of those links, the company pays us a referral fee. That is our business model. It never changes the price you pay, and it does not decide what we say: if a product or plan is a poor fit for most Texans, we will tell you. Read more on our About & disclosure page.
FAQ
Is YEnergy free to use?
Yes. Reading the guides and using our partner links costs you nothing. If you sign up for a plan, request solar quotes or buy a product through one of our links, we may earn a commission from the company, which does not change your price.
Can everyone in Texas choose their electricity provider?
No. Most customers of the big investor-owned delivery companies (Oncor, CenterPoint Energy Houston, AEP Texas and TNMP) can choose a retail electricity provider. Customers of many municipal utilities and electric co-ops, including Austin Energy and CPS Energy in San Antonio, generally cannot. Enter your ZIP code on a comparison tool to see what is available at your address.
Is YEnergy an electricity provider or solar installer?
No. YEnergy is an independent information and referral site. We do not sell electricity, install equipment or handle your enrollment.
